AUGUST 12TH – AUGUST 17TH – CONSCIOUS DYING

The practice of Conscious Dying (tib. Phowa) helps us guide the dying process for ourselves and others, leading all to a state of great bliss.
Lama Ole Nydahl will first give teachings on death, the intermediate state (bardo) and rebirth. During the 5 days of meditation that follow, he will teach how to open the central channel in the middle of the body. In the process of dying this meditation helps to enter the pure land of the "Buddha of Limitless Light" (tib. Opame, skt. Amitabha). At the same time one becomes capable of helping others actively while they are passing away.
Those of you who are coming to the "Conscious dying" course for the first time, need to undertake a specific preparation which you can learn in your nearest Diamond Way Buddhist Centre; you are also expected to remain for the entire course (until Sunday evening).

PREPARATION FOR THE COURSE

Please meditate on the "Buddha of Limitless Light" while repeating the mantra OM AMI DEWA HRI, 100 000 times. The meditation on the "Buddha of Limitless Light" is available as a booklet in every DWB centre. To practice the Phowa meditation Buddhist refuge is necessary. Lama Ole Nydahl will give the refuge at the beginning of the course.

AUGUST 17TH - AUGUST 21ST - 72 HOUR MEDITATION ON LOVING EYES - THE BUDDHA OF COMPASSION

For 72 hours we will meditate on the Buddha of Compassion or Loving Eyes (tib. Chenrezig, skt Avaloketisvara) for the benefit of all beings. In this way our main motivation as Diamond Way practitioners – to be able to help all sentient beings – is strengthened. Sherab Gyaltsen Rinpoche will be present for most of the meditation. He is a master of this practice and has guided retreats on Loving Eyes in Kathmandu for 25 years. The accumulation of mantras during the meditation, will be supported by friends worldwide, via streaming. To be able to meditate with the teachers of one's lineage gives the possibility for deep exchange, it is a rare opportunity and is very helpful for one's own development.
The actual meditation will start at midnight on 18 August, with an introduction from Lama Ole before hand.
